Worn in duty, personal defense, and competition capacities by military, law enforcement, and civilians worldwide, the reputation of FN's pistols is on par with that of their rifles. Current models include striker-fired and hammer-fired operation, with or without night sights (most models) and with two safety options, in various finishes, and with magazine capacities that meet the requirements of most locales. Essentially, something for everyone inclined to own a high-quality, reliable, semi-automatic pistol.
Somewhat new to FN's lineup is their Five-seveN series, chambered in FN's own 5.7x28mm cartridge. This cartridge was developed during the project that FN undertook to answer NATO's call for a new personal defense weapon, specifically one which offered better performance than the standard issue 9mm cartridge.
As with FN's rifles, one would be hard-pressed to find a line of pistols offering overall reliability that is superior to that of the FNS, FNX, and Five-seveN.
