Steiner 4X-16X-50mm G2 Mil-Dot Riflescope 5416

Review is for a Steiner military 4-16x50mm scope. It is big, long and heavy. Build quality is outstanding. Controls are smooth and well-engineered. Reticle is precise but thick as would be expected in a "military" series scope. Excellent field of view at all magnifications. Comparing to other scopes in the same price and quality class the Steiner glass has excellent clarity and resolution, however; brightness is about average and at low power there is some minor fish bowling on the outer edges of the field of view. The eyepiece is extremely long. Must mount scope significantly forward to avoid the eyepiece protruding too far toward the butt stock. Eye relief is about average, it is the eyepiece housing that is long. On a short action rifle you will have to push the scope forward, meaning the turrets almost touch the front ring when the ring is mounted on the last rail slot over the front of the action. This looks odd, but is required to use this Steiner without the eyepiece hitting your nose when you fire a round. Bottom line, a great value at the closeout price but a little quirky. 4 of 5 stars due to extra long eyepiece housing.
