Description

The LWRCI’s Six8-SPR (Special Purpose Rifle) was developed as a part of the Enhanced Rifle Cartridge program intended to address the terminal performance deficiencies associated with the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge. As the name implies, the Six8-SPR is chambered in the 6.8x43mm SPC II, a cartridge said to bridge the lethality gap between 5.56 and 7.62 NATO rounds by utilizing a heavier projectile for more energy on impact. One of the problems faced by the 6.8mm cartridge was a lack of reliable magazines, to solve this, LWRCI partnered with Magpul to create a magazine specifically intended for the 6.8mm round, and designed the Six8 family of weapons around said magazine. The magazine itself is reminiscent of the standard P-MAG such as its curved shape and texture, but features a slightly wider body and strengthened walls. Other features of the Six8-SPR have been optimized for use with the 6.8mm cartridge as well. This is evident in the enlarged ejection port, an Advanced Combat bolt calibrated for 6.8mm, and feeding geometry designed around the 6.8mm round’s dimensions.

In addition to its 6.8mm augmentations, the Six8-SPR is equipped with many of the familiar features found on LWRCI’s other weapons. One of the most noticeable is its heavy-profile, cold-hammer forged barrel with a black Nitride treatment. The barrel is precisely torqued in LWRCI’s factory to a consistent torque setting, and features a 1:10 twist rate for optimal stabilization over a wide range of bullet types. Like all of LWRCI’s premium rifles, the Six8-SPR is exceptionally reliable. This can be attributed to the patented LWRCI short-stroke gas piston system, a system renowned for its dependability and ease of maintenance. The Six8-SPR also comes standard with a nickel-boron coated bolt carrier for unmatched resistance to wear and corrosion while also providing permanent lubricity. To enhance the reliability even further, the rifle is equipped with the LWRCI Enhanced Fire Control Group, which utilizes nickel-Teflon coated components for a smooth, crisp trigger pull with a positive reset. In addition to its accuracy and reliability, the Six8-SPR offers a variety of user friendly controls. The safety selector, charging handle, bolt release, and magazine release are all ambidextrous for comfortable shooting with either hand, and an enlarged trigger guard allows for shooting with gloves.

This should have been revisited by the U.S. Army and selected for use once the chamber tolerance bugs were worked out and selected over the new 6.8×51 or .277 Fury's excess weight and recoil. The LWRC 6.8 SPC 2 rifle has more than aptly bridge the gap between the 5.56 and 7.62 cartridge thus fulfilling the requirements of the NGSW program besides the extreme range characteristics of the 6.8×51 with which could be considered for their DMR option
