The smoothness and reliability of the bolt action is largely thanks to a special machining technique known as broaching, which results in a unique key-shaped interior cut inside the receiver for effortless bolt manipulations, as well as a Dimond Like Coating (DLC) for greater resistance to rust and corrosion. The bolt’s sheer reliability and easy movements are perfectly matched by the rifle’s fine-tuned trigger mechanism. The trigger’s pull can be adjusted on a 6 step system, allowing the weight to be calibrated from 750g to 1750g, and trigger ergonomics can be adjusted forward or backward with a movement range of 7mm. For an additional level of safety, the Sako 100 Explorer Wood features a manual cocking “Handspannung” mechanism. This innovative design allows the user to keep the rifle un-cocked with a round in the chamber until they are ready to shoot. The rifle can be instantly and silently cocked with the push of a button, and un-cocked by activating the release. This unique safety feature also allows the bolt to be opened with the safety on to unload the rifle, and will remain on until the bolt is closed and the rifle re-cocked.

Swapping caliber is simple, and the only tool necessary is a torque wrench which comes as an accessory in the stock of the rifle. To change calibers, simply remove the bolt, unscrew the barrel with the supplied torque wrench, change the barrel to the desired caliber and re-tighten the screws, then replace the bolt. An added benefit to the caliber swapping capabilities is the ability to mount a scope directly to the barrel. The barrel-mounted scope eliminates the need to re-zero the Sako 100 Explorer Wood after swapping calibers, and enhances the rifle’s overall accuracy.
