It was used in small numbers by Union troops during the American Civil War; most of the soldiers armed with the 1860 Henry bought it by themselves. Despite its limited use, it did draw attention to the advantages of a quick firing multi-shot rifle, which then led to the development of the legendary Winchester Lever Action Rifle.
