FN America just announced two new models to the FN 509 line-up, the FN 509 Midsize and the FN 509 Tactical Black. While an FN 509 Tactical with a black finish was teased in a commercial back in July, FN America did not indicate that a black version of the 509 Tactical would become available to the commercial market. The features of the FN 509 Tactical Black remain the same as the original FDE version with the only difference being the matte black finish.
The more exciting addition to the 509 lineup is the FN 509 Midsize, designed to compete directly with the Glock 19 or Sig Sauer P320 Compact. The FN 509 Midsize shaves almost a half inch off the height of the pistol, finely tuning it for conceal carry without compromising the excellent ergonomics of the 509 platform. The shorter frame isn't the only new feature for the FN 509 Midsize though, the pistol now sports an upgraded trigger, new molding around the mag release, and enhanced grip texturing. The FN 509 Midsize is available in two models, one with (2) 15 round magazines and another with (2) 10 round magazines for buyers living in those states. The FN 509 Midsize is also compatible with the 24 Round Magazine produced for the 509 Tactical models.
