The LWRCI’s Six8-PSD (Personal Security Detail) was developed as a part of the Enhanced Rifle Cartridge program intended to address the terminal performance deficiencies associated with the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge.The IC-PSD is exceptionally compact and offers the formidable stopping power of the 6.8x43mm SPC II cartridge with the size of a pistol caliber carbine. The 6.8x43mm round itself was developed to bridge the lethality gap between 5.56 and 7.62 NATO rounds by utilizing a heavier projectile for more energy on impact. The SIX8-PSD is highly optimized for the 6.8x43mm round. This is evident in the enlarged ejection port, an Advanced Combat bolt calibrated for 6.8mm, and feeding geometry designed around the 6.8mm round’s dimensions. The SIX8-PSD also utilizes magazines specifically designed for the 6.8x43mm cartridge.
In addition to its 6.8mm optimizations, the Six8-PSD is equipped with many of the familiar features found on LWRCI’s other weapons. Like all of LWRCI’s premium rifles, the Six8-PSD is exceptionally reliable. This can be attributed to the patented LWRCI short-stroke gas piston system, a system renowned for its dependability and ease of maintenance. The Six8-PSD also comes standard with a nickel-boron coated bolt carrier for unmatched resistance to wear and corrosion while also providing permanent lubricity. To enhance the reliability even further, the rifle is equipped with the LWRCI Enhanced Fire Control Group, which utilizes nickel-Teflon coated components for a smooth, crisp trigger pull with a positive reset. In addition to its accuracy and reliability, the Six8-PSD offers a variety of user friendly controls. The safety selector, charging handle, bolt release, and magazine release are all ambidextrous for comfortable shooting with either hand, and an enlarged trigger guard allows for shooting with gloves. Another intuitive aspect of the Six8-PSD is its low profile 2-position adjustable gas block, allowing the rifle to be finely tuned for use with a suppressor.
