Garmin’s inReach Messenger is an ideal accessory for adventures that take you off the grid. It utilizes your smartphone’s cellular connection when it’s available, but will seamlessly transition to a 100% global Iridium satellite network when cellular coverage is no longer accessible. The inReach Messenger can connect to compatible smartphones, marine/aviation equipment, and many of Garmin’s devices. Once connected to a compatible smartphone, the inReach Messenger can sync with your phone’s contact list. This enables you to send and exchange text messages and group chat with multiple contacts through Garmin’s Messenger app – all without cellular coverage. An on-device display allows you to send your contacts preset Check In messages directly from the inReach Messenger, and message confirmation notifications gives you piece of mind that your message has been sent. One of the inReach Messenger’s more notable features is its interactive SOS Alert system, which allows you to send a message to Garmin’s IERCC 24/7-staffed emergency response coordination center. This device also features a Location Sharing function, which sends your loved ones your exact GPS coordinates embedded in your text messages, and TracBack Routing to help you navigate back to your starting point.
Other features of the inReach Messenger include a rugged design that’s impact resistant and features an IPX7 waterproof rating. The inReach Messenger measures in at 4” x 2” and weighs a mere 4 ounces – allowing you to stay in touch off the grid without weighing you down. To ensure you remain in contact during extended trips, the inReach Messenger features a battery life of up to 28 days, and can even be used to give your phone battery enough power to send a custom text message. In addition, the inReach Messenger features Garmin’s inReach Weather Forecast, allowing you to see weather predictions on your current location as well as waypoint and destination on your itinerary.
