Spuhr’s Ballistic Adjustable Mount (BAM) was designed for Aimpoint’s CompM4 Red Dot Sight, and allows the shooter to adjust the sight’s elevation to extend their effective range. The BAM Mount is available in two configurations: 5.56 NATO and 7.62mm x 51. The 5.56 NATO version can be adjusted for accurate shooting at 50/200, 400, 500, 600, 700, and 800 meters, while the 7.62mm x 51 can be adjusted for 50/200, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1,000 meters. Adjustments are made using an ambidextrous knob, and a tactile, easy to see “tongue” lets the shooter instantly know what inclination the BAM is set to. When the tongue is set to the rearward position, the BAM is set to the base setting of 50/200 meters – this inclination setting was chosen since the ballistic curves are the same. This is beneficial to the shooter by allowing them to zero the sight at both 50 and 200 meters at the same time. The BAM is also compatible with accessories such as magnifiers and clip-on night-vision/thermal devices to further enhance the shooter’s accuracy at extended ranges or low-light situations. The parallel movement between the mount and sight ensures the reticle will always remain centered in the magnifier/clip-on device, and an afterglowing dot on the 50/200 meter setting accommodates use in low-light situations.
