Hands-On: MagnetoSpeed V3 Chronograph

Fine tuning your handloads to maximize the performance of a new rifle can be tricky.  Having good data on each round is critical to wringing out every last bit of accuracy and range.  Muzzle velocity readings are a good way to test ammo consistency, as well as to calculate bullet drop in one of the many calculators out there.  The MagnetoSpeed V3 Chronograph was just the tool I needed to test some loads for my newly finished custom rifle.

MagnetoSpeed V3 Chronograph mounted up and ready to go.

The MagnetoSpeed was the preferred choice of chronograph for a few reasons, the first among which is flexibility. It can be set for .22LR, as well as subsonic rounds. In these photos, the round I was shooting was the .375 Cheytac. The chronograph gripped on tight to the barrel and did not move under recoil, nor was it effected by muzzle blast.

The profile of the V3 is such that setup time is quick and painless. Getting velocity readings has never been easier.

Another reason why it is a superior chronograph to older designs is that because it attaches to your barrel, or picatinny rail, you are not limited to shooting through a narrow gap.  This allows you to test at various targets at a range without having to reposition equipment.

Another advantage to the bayonet-mounted chronograph is the ability to shoot at targets of differing angles without having to reposition chronograph equipment. Optic is Nightforce ATACR, and bipod is Long Range Accuracy.

The final two advantages are the size of the unit, which has a case no bigger than a handgun case, and that it is not effected by lighting conditions.  All these capabilities combine to make the MagnetoSpeed V3 Chronograph one of the best devices currently available.
