The Astro 430 can connect to up to twenty T5 or T5 mini collars (sold separately) allowing you to track multiple dogs at the same time. The Astro 430 receives updates on your dog’s exact position within a 9-mile radius every 2.5 seconds, so you’ll be able to view the track they’re following even while they’re on the run. In addition to displaying your dog’s current position, the Astro 430 will also display a trail where your dog has been, and an auto-zoom map function is included you can quickly see all of your dogs’ current and previous locations at the same time. The Astro 430 utilizes both GPS and GLONASS satellite systems to provide more accurate tracking than GPS alone – even in areas where cellphone reception isn’t available. To optimize training opportunities, the Astro 430 is outfitted with sophisticated hunt metrics which provides information such as time in the field, distance traveled, and the number of times a dog “treed” game or was “on-point.”

Other features of the Astro 430 include Garmin’s exclusive Covey Counter. This function allows you mark the exact spot where you tracked down quarry, the time of day, the elevation, and the number of birds that were flushed and taken from that location. The Covey Counter also lets you save special waypoints such as the location of your truck or the hunting lodge so you can easily find your way back to them. Aside from its advanced dog tracking capabilities, the Astro 430 is equipped with a series of navigational functions. It comes preloaded with Topo U.S. 100K mapping for an in-depth view of terrain contours, topographic elevations, summits, and other geographical points of interest, as well as a 1-year subscription to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery for a photo realistic view of the area. Other wayfinding functions include BaseCamp software, which lets you, view and organize maps, waypoints, routes and tracks that you can share with family and friends, and can also display topographical map data in 2-D or 3-D on a computer.
