The Savage Arms Impulse Driver Hunter was built from the ground up to meet the needs of modern Driver hunts. The barrel is shorter and uses a light profile to reduce weight, and a user-adjustable AccuTrigger can be finely adjusted between 1.5 and 4 lbs.
Like the other rifles in the Impulse family, the Impulse Driver Hunter uses a straight-pull action. This allows shooters to manipulate the action in a swift, linear movement, eliminating the need to lift the bolt, pull it rearward, push it forward. Shooters can also operate the action without losing their cheek weld or take their eyes off the target. The heart of the Impulse action is Savage's innovative Hexlock technology. It uses six hardened steel bearings that lock the bolt in place inside the receiver's barrel extension. As gas pressure increases when a round is fired, the Hexlock's hold tightens, ensuring no rearward movement of the bolt. When the pressure subsides, the Hexlock releases its hold and the bolt can be opened. The bolt utilizes a cylindrical design for smoother operation and no bolt bind, and the bolt handle can be positioned in multiple angles and on either side for ambidextrous operation.
