By the outbreak of American Civil War, Colt had refined their earlier revolver designs into a sleek, streamlined handgun: the 1861 Navy. This handsome six-shooter had an improved loading lever to facilitate easier loading of the cylinder, and was chambered in a smaller .36 Caliber projectile giving it considerably less recoil than its larger predecessors chambered in .44 Caliber. The 1861 Navy's gained a reputation for accuracy, and featured blade-style front sight instead of a metal bead. These handguns were used by soldiers on both sides during the Civil War, especially cavalry units and other horseback mounted troops. Uberti's 1861 Navy Revolver is an authentic reproduction of the original down to the last detail, including a case hardened frame, blade-style front sight, and an engraved cylinder.
