50 Caliber Browning Machine Gun (.50BMG)

The 50 caliber Browning Machine Gun Cartridge (.50BMG) is over 90 years old, is well on its way to a centennial and most significantly has had a long history of service to the US military. Essentially a larger scaled 30-06 Government round it was developed to handle larger enemy targets and armament and for the Browning Machine Gun (50 BMG). It has seen service in nearly every military conflict the US has been engaged in since its release.

In recent years the round has seen resurgence in popularity for long range shooting and sniper matches. Shooting a heavy 750 grain bullet at 2800 feet per second provides a cartridge that has outstanding wind bucking ability, long range energy delivery and has good accuracy for its size. A number of companies now load ammunition for the .50BMG and the popularity of the Barrett, Accuracy International, McMillan rifles and the recently introduced DTA HTI 50BMG rifle by Desert Tactical Arms rifles (all sold by Eurooptic) have served to make the round more widely known and used. In fact the .50BMG has been the parent case of a few other newly developed rounds such as the .416 Barrett
