Dan Wesson’s Specialist Commander was designed at the request of a police department that needed a 1911-style handgun that was more durable and reliable than the ones their officers were carrying. As a result, the Specialist comes fully equipped with a wide array of performance enhancing features made to satisfy a public servant’s specific requirements. These features include an undercut trigger guard to place the shooter’s hand in an optimal position, and a recessed slide stop is included to accommodate the installation of laser grips. The sights are composed of snag-free Novak-style fixed sights, with illuminated tritium lamps for accurate shooting in low light environments. The tactical rear sight utilizes an abrupt front face, allowing the user to rack the slide one handed. The Specialist also features an inverted top rib running between the front and rear sights to help reduce glare for a clean sight picture in any lighting condition. In terms of user-friendly upgrades, the Specialist is outfitted with an ambidextrous thumb safety for comfortable shooting in either hand, and an extended magazine release and detachable flared magazine well makes reloads fast and easy. To ensure superior control over the weapon, the Specialist features 25 LPI on the front and back straps, as well as generous texturing on its G10 grips. In addition, the Specialist features an accessory rail for use with a tactical light/laser.
