Instead of using redirected gas to work the mechanism, the 1012 utilizes a spring contained within the bolt to store energy from the gun’s recoil, which is then released a fraction of a second later to unlock and rotate the dual lugs from the barrel extension and withdraw the spent shell. There are many benefits to this operating system, but the most considerable is less stringent maintenance and cleaning requirements as there is no gas piston that requires cleaning. During reliability testing, the CZ 1012 was capable of cycling and firing 5000 rounds without any oiling or cleaning, and functioned flawlessly without any parts breakage or malfunctions.
