Sako 85 Kodiak Specs

The Sako 85 Kodiak is an accurate, reliable, and durable bolt-action rifle designed with bear hunters in mind. This Kodiak is chambered in the heavy-duty .375 H&H magnum cartridge, a round known for its effectiveness on dropping large game and dangerous game in one shot. The rifle itself uses Sako’s well-renowned 85 type action, and utilizes a detachable stainless steel magazine with a capacity of 4 rounds plus one in the chamber. The short 21.25 inch barrel is cold-hammer forged and made out of top quality stainless steel alloy. The fully adjustable open sights use the V-notch design, a type common among guide and dangerous game rifles.

This rifle is everything that you would expect from Sako. A smooth action, great fit and finish, a crisp trigger and SMOA accuracy. I find the rifle handles well and in 375 H&H is very comfortable to shoot.

The rifle ejects empties straight up into the scope and back down into the chamber. This is a flaw I read about years ago. I would think Sako would have corrected this problem by now. I will probably have to take this rifle to a gunsmith to make it eject properly with a new spring and extractor.

Bought this rifle for a Kodiak bear hunt-as back up crew- after unhappy using a Remington 700- that had a very narrow ejection port- no to dig out a problem round of ammo. This rifle handles like a dream- and the open sights are very fast- better than any scoped rifle I have used. It is also not a punisher to shoot in 375 H&H, I find it "fun" to shoot. With the control round feed- I have confidence in it for dangerous situations. Extra clips are pretty spendy tho. All in all- a GREAT rifle!
