Savage Arms

Born in Jamaica, Arthur Savage was schooled in England, helped develop the Savage Halpine torpedo bought by the Brazilian military, managed a coffee plantation in the West Indies, owned the largest cattle ranch in Australia, and was held captive for a year by Aborigines. With his unique background and vast interest in firearms, Savage battled giant gun makers to establish Savage Arms Company in 1894 in Utica, New York. After striking an arrangement with Chief Lame Deer and his tribe in 1919 the Indian head logo was added to the company name. In 1920, Savage purchased J. Stevens Arms company and later acquired multiple firearm companies to become the largest firearm company in America.

Today, Savage is a consumer sensitive company which adopts many ideas suggested by firearm users. Management spends its time listening to hunters, speaking with guides, and in the field itself because there is no substitute for hands-on experience. Savage continues to maintain its original entrepreneurial spirt, product improvement, on-going innovations, and known quality and value.
