This is my second S&B 5-25, but my first with the Gen II XR reticle. I mounted this scope on top of a custom .338 Norma Mag Improved with Nightforce Ultralite rings.
There are a lot of incredible scopes at the tippy top of the state of the art (Nightforce, Tangent Theta, etc), and I won't claim that this scope is objectively better than those scopes. However, I will say that the S&B 5-25 is simply an amazing optic and I am continually blown away by the overall quality and engineering prowess on display here. Forget comparing this scope to other high end scopes and just appreciate it for what it is - an extremely capable optic with beautiful glass and rock solid reliability.
Build quality is tank-like. This thing is indestructible. Optical quality is extremely bright, crisp, and clear. Glass quality is on par with my Swarovski EL binos and Kowa Prominar 88mm spotter. It will never leave you wanting. Knobs are solid, precise, and easy to use. Even on my heavy-recoiling .338, this scope has been 100% repeatable and reliable. The S&B 5-25 has many prestigious military contracts worldwide, including the PSR for USSOCOM. The SOCOM reliability tests were a big selling point for me. This scope is engineered with extreme durability in mind.
I love the Gen II XR reticle. It provides very useful hold points without being overly cluttered like the Horus reticles. To me it is the perfect combination of simplicity and utility. The reticle is VERY fine, noticeably finer than even the P4F reticle. I shoot almost exclusively at 20+ magnification, so this is not a problem for me. In fact, I prefer the ultra-fine reticle for its POI precision at extreme range. Just keep in mind that the ranging capability and hold points of this reticle will have limited usefulness at low magnifications.
This scope receives my highest, unqualified recommendation for a long range optic. It is just impossible not to be impressed with this amazing piece of optical engineering. Yes it is expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Love mine! I watched my bullets leave the muzzle, all the way to a 700 yard plate and impact. Ret is sweet! Turrets are simply a amazing. This is the best top tier scope you can get.

This optic removes the optic variable from your mind. I never have to consider if my scope is going to do it’s job. I shoot match after match dialing up n down day after day - it always returns to zero and provides bright, crisp image. I’ve run it on my PRS bolt guns since 10/2017 with no issues whatsoever. I had the Gen II XR replaced with a Grid2 reticle to improve hold-over capability- that’s it. I’ve since purchased a 2nd one that came with the same reticle. The PM II is a lifetime keeper

I knew the scope would be really nice but didn't expect it to be what it is. Blown away! This thing ALMOST feels like it outclasses the Sako TRG its on and that's the finest rifle I've ever owned. Excellent excellent scope. A lot of money but world class and know it will last a lifetime.
