Geissele Super 42 Braided Wire Buffer Spring and Buffer Combo H1 05-495 improves an AR-15 carbine's function and reliability on its own, without requiring the full buffer tube purchase for builders who already have a tube they're happy with.
This Geissele Super 42 buffer spring uses three independent strands of wire, the same design used by the German MG42 machine gun. The braided wire design operates like a harmonic damper and energy absorber, letting the strands flex independently from each other. That displaces energy and decreases the risk of spring failure while making the rifle more reliable. Compared to a standard spring, it's less likely to lose length and force over time, and it eliminates the irritating spring reverberations felt through the buttstock. Its return force runs roughly 15% stronger than a standard spring, helping the carbine strip cartridges from the magazine when the weapon is dirty or running steel case ammunition.
One important compatibility note: this Geissele Super 42 H1 combo is designed specifically for carbine-length buffer tubes and is not compatible with rifle-length or A5 buffer tubes. The spring and buffer are engineered to work together as a matched set - the spring won't fit over a standard buffer, and pairing it with one will damage the rifle or receiver extension.
This Geissele H1 buffer combo is a straightforward upgrade for anyone who already has a compatible buffer tube and just needs the internals replaced.
