I am not an expert on thermal scopes and this is my first thermal scope. I like the resolution and clarity of this scope and I fully realize it is not the current state of the art. But then again, it is less than half the cost of the current state of the art thermal optic. My approach was to purchase a thermal scope that would allow me to reliably detect thermal signatures out to 400 yards or so (I am sure this scope will do this but have not tested it at that distance yet) and allow me to engage accurately out to 200 yards. Again, I have not done this yet, but have shot at 100 yards easily with this optic. Target detection and target recognition are two different things. Understand this is not a traditional scope. You are looking at very small screen (like a tiny TV) and the overall package used for thermal scopes is intentionally made to look just like a traditional scope (it really could look very different though). The screen is a very nice AMOLED distance (that is an OLED screen with advanced features… think of your big LG TV in your living room that uses OLED technology and give it a boost with AMOLED technology). I like the interface and the built in compass and anti-cant indicator. It is a bit difficult to use/zero in daytime. But I think this will be true of all thermal scopes. The ambient light makes it very difficult to see the screen. The eye cup is OK but with eyeglasses it is not very practical. I did manage to get it zeroed and probably looked like an old-time photographer doing so. I recommend using a handwarmer as a target for this and a frozen ice block will work also. Overall, this is a nice thermal scope and it does what I need it to do. Much better than many of the cheaper options on the market (I looked at others) especially at this price point.
