Tikka T3x Ember Rifles
The Ember is easy to pick out on a gun rack. It's the black stock with the orange web running through it. The look isn't just for show, though. That web is part of the Roughtech texture, which keeps your hands planted on the stock in rain or snow, gloves or not. We have 16 Tikka T3x Ember Rifles listed right now, in nine calibers from .243 Win to .300 Win Mag, and six of them are left-handed.
What Every Ember Shares
Each Tikka T3x Roughtech Ember is built on the T3x Lite platform. The stock has the Roughtech surface all the way around, so it stays put in wet or cold hands. The pistol grip is interchangeable, and the forend has an extra attachment point if you want to widen it for a steadier rest.
The bolt is fluted to keep it cycling in dust and ice, and the knob is oversized so you can work it with a glove on. Barrels are cold hammer forged and fluted, which trims weight off the front. On the right-hand stainless models, the titles confirm a muzzle brake in the box and a 5/8x24 thread. The left-hand models also list a 5/8x24 thread.
Want a Tikka T3x Roughtech rifle that doesn't look like every other black synthetic in deer camp? This is it.
The Lineup
Right-Hand Stainless
Most of the right-hand rifles pair the Ember stock with a stainless barreled action and a fluted barrel. You'll find them in .243 Win, .270 Win, .30-06 Sprg and .308 Win on 22- to 22.4-inch barrels. The 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 WSM and .300 Win Mag run 24.3-inch barrels.
The EuroOptic Exclusive .308
One Ember is only sold here. It's a Tikka T3x Roughtech 308 with a blued, 20-inch fluted barrel. That makes it the shortest Ember on the page and a natural fit if you hunt timber or plan to add a suppressor. It also has the most reviews of any rifle in this category.
Left-Hand
The left-hand Embers come in 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, .270 Win, .308 Win, 7mm Rem Mag and .300 Win Mag. All of them are threaded 5/8x24. The Tikka T3x Roughtech 6.5 Creedmoor and Tikka T3x Roughtech 6.5 PRC left-handers both run 24-inch barrels with a 1:8 twist. The Tikka T3x Roughtech 7mm Rem mag left-hand has a 1:9 twist, and it's currently the top seller on this page.
How to Choose a Tikka T3x Ember
Start with what you hunt. For whitetail and black bear, the .308 Win, .270 Win, .30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor all do the job, and the .243 is the gentlest of the group for younger or smaller-framed shooters. Moving into elk, sheep or open-country mule deer? Look at the 6.5 PRC or 7mm Rem Mag. Moose, big bulls at long range, or anything where you want extra margin points to the .300 Win Mag or .300 WSM.
Barrel length comes next. The 20-inch Exclusive .308 is the handiest by a mile. The 22- to 22.4-inch rifles balance well for most deer hunting. The 24-inch and 24.3-inch barrels on the 6.5s and magnums squeeze more velocity out of those bigger cases, and that shows up past 400 yards.
Then think about weather. The right-hand stainless rifles shrug off rain and sweat better than blued steel. If your rifle spends wet Novembers in a truck, go stainless. The Exclusive .308 is blued, so plan on wiping it down after a damp hunt.
Finally, recoil. In a rifle this light, the .300 Win Mag and 7mm Rem Mag kick noticeably. The brake on the stainless right-hand models takes a lot of the edge off.
