Tikka T3x Super Varmint Rifles
Picture a long afternoon on a prairie dog town. You've shot fifty rounds and the barrel is hot enough to cook on. That's the kind of day the Tikka T3x Super Varmint Rifles were built for. Tikka gave them a heavy barrel, a two-stage trigger, a Picatinny rail and an adjustable stock straight from the factory, so you can mount a scope and go. We stock ten calibers right now, all right-handed, all in a green Roughtech stock.
What Comes Standard
Most varmint rifles leave the good stuff for you to add later. The Tikka T3x Super Varmint includes it.
The barrel is heavy, free-floated and cold hammer forged. All that steel soaks up heat, so your fifth string groups like your first. Tungsten Cerakote covers the whole barreled action, which is why people search for the Tikka T3x Super Varmint Cerakote by name. The finish shrugs off scratches, rust and dust from a day in the dirt.
The stock is Roughtech, with a gritty texture that grips well. The forend is wider than a standard T3x, so it sits flat on a bag without rocking. The vertical pistol grip keeps your wrist straight behind the trigger, and the adjustable cheek piece lifts your eye up to a big scope.
The two-stage trigger gives you a short take-up and then a clean break. The bolt is fluted, with an oversized knob you can find without looking.
According to Tikka, most configurations weigh roughly 8.4 to 9 pounds before glass. That's heavy enough to stay still on a rest, and light enough to carry from the truck to the bipod.
The Calibers
Varmint and Predator Rounds
The Tikka T3x Super Varmint .223 Rem 24" is the volume shooter's rifle. It's cheap to feed, recoil is gentle enough to spot your own hits, and the 6-round magazine is the biggest in the lineup. Its 1:8 twist handles heavier bullets that buck the wind better.
The Tikka T3x Super Varmint .22-250 Rem is faster and flatter, which helps when coyotes hang up at 400 yards. It uses a 1:14 twist suited to lighter varmint bullets.
The .243 Win and 6mm Creedmoor sit in between. They're heavy enough to fight wind on the prairie and big enough for deer, so one rifle can cover both seasons.
Long-Range and Steel
The Tikka T3x Super Varmint 6.5 Creedmoor is the one you'll see most at steel matches. It's mild, it's accurate, and match ammo is everywhere. The Tikka T3x Super Varmint 308 handles heavier bullets and practically any ammo you'll find on a store shelf. The 6.5 PRC reaches farther than either, and it takes a 4-round magazine.
Magnums
A heavy barrel turns a magnum into something you'll actually enjoy shooting off a bench. The 7mm Rem Mag and 7mm PRC suit long-range elk practice and serious steel. The Tikka T3x Super Varmint 300 Win mag hits hardest of the ten.
How to Choose a Tikka Super Varmint
What you're shooting at. For prairie dogs and ground squirrels, stick with .223 Rem or .22-250 Rem. For coyotes on windy ground, step up to .243 Win or 6mm Creedmoor. For steel, the 6.5 Creedmoor is the easy pick. Choose a magnum only if you're practicing for long shots on big game, or you shoot steel well past 1,000 yards.
How much you'll shoot. If a day out means 200 rounds, you want something cheap and soft-recoiling, so look at .223 Rem or 6mm Creedmoor. The magnums are better for a handful of careful shots than for high-volume days.
Wind. Out West, heavier bullets matter. The .223's 1:8 twist helps, but the .243, 6mm and 6.5 calibers drift noticeably less than the light .22-250 loads.
Suppressor use. The 6mm Creedmoor and 7mm PRC listings state a 5/8x24 thread. On the others, confirm the thread on the product page before you order a can or brake.
