Geissele Automatics
Geissele ACH 5.56mm Black Airborne Charging Handle 05-497B exists because someone in an aerial insertion unit got tired of snagging their charging handle on gear during a jump. That's the actual origin story — this thing was built at the request of an elite airborne organization that wanted a lower-profile lever than what Geissele's standard charging handle offered, and that's exactly what they got.
The Geissele Airborne charging handle is 3D machined from a solid block of 7075-T6 aluminum, so it's one piece rather than a stamped or cast part bolted together. The levers are shortened and dual-contoured — concave cuts on both the vertical and horizontal planes — which keeps the whole handle low-profile enough to sit under low-mounted red dots without interference. Checkered handling surfaces give it real grip even with gloves on, and a taller rear fence redirects gas blowback away from your face, which matters more than people expect once you're running a suppressor or a shorter barrel.
Finish-wise, it's Type III hardcoat anodized in black, so scratches and corrosion aren't going to be an issue. This Geissele charging handle weighs in around 2.5 ounces and drops straight into any mil-spec AR-15 upper — no fitting, no modification.
Originally developed for USASOC's URG-I program, this Airborne charging handle has become one of those parts that shows up on builds regardless of whether anyone's actually jumping out of a plane — 05-497B just works.
