About Springfield Armory

In 1777, just after the start of the American Revolution George Washington established the United States' first armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Springfield Armory during the Revolutionary War was used as a site to secure ammunition and gun carriages vital to the struggle for independence. After the Revolutionary War, the Springfield Armory began manufacturing muskets for the new nation and quickly became a center for weapons development in the United States for nearly two centuries, producing some of the nation's most prolific firearms including the M1911 pistol, M1 Garand rifle, and the M14 rifle.

After the Springfield Armory was closed in 1968 by the federal government, the Reese family of Geneseo, Illinois licensed the name and insignia of Springfield Armory. Since then the company has dedicated itself to protecting the legacy of the Springfield Armory by continuing to develop high quality firearms and reproducing some of the Armory's most famous firearms like the 1911 pistol and their semi-automatic version of the M14, the M1A rifle. Springfield Armory has won multiple American Rifleman's Golden Bullseye Awards and has become one of the largest firearm manufactures in the world.

While Eurooptic really did nothing wrong, Springfield Armory did, IMHO. This was my fifth XDm product line purchase. I also have two XDs products. To continue my collection of Bi-tone's I wanted this pistol, which apparently Springfield stopped making, and availability of this model is very rare. I didn't fully understand why this came with (2) 13rnd magazines instead of the typical (1) 13rnd mag and (1) 19 rnd mag. Now I do. In the model name there is a "NJ" for New Jersey. Jersey has mag capacity restrictions. I don't live in Jersey and I didn't care because Springfield was having a Gear Up program again, and in the past they have sent me the larger capacity magazines along with one lower capacity mag. Well this is where I have lost faith in SA. After this unit was shipped from SA to Eurooptic, New Jersey further lowered their magazine limit to 10. So when I submitted my Gear Up rebate, SA sent me (3) 10 round magazines! Springfield bases their Gear Up program off of the model, not the shipping ZIP code for legal clarifications!?! When I gave them the opportunity to correct this oversight of the no capacity limit in my state, SA said they would not even exchange the 10 rnd mags for the 13 rnd mags that the unit shipped with originally. So buyer beware or you may find yourself participating in a Gear Down program like I did. Pistol works and looks great.
