Long range shooting is a hobby chosen by many, but mastered by only a few. Those who have mastered this sport know from experience that choosing the right optic for the job is not optional - it's critical. Here's a few things to think about when choosing your next long range scope.
Having enough top-end magnification now becomes critical, and when shooting long range targets, the lower-end magnification is not nearly as important. With scopes in this category now frequently having up to or over 50x zoom, all the tools needed to see those targets are at your disposal.
Having a reticle that allows you to make minor adjustments to point of aim without coming off the scope is also now important to think about. Ballistic and "Christmas tree" reticles absolutely shine here. Not sure how to use one? Keep in mind, that just because you don't now, doesn't mean you can't learn.
When dealing with long range targets, especially when you're shooting for accuracy, having the right type of adjustment - and enough of it - is needed. Though, if you end up with not quite enough, you always have the option of adding a scope base with more elevation.
