Feg Defense’s Hungarian Dragunov HD-18 is a civilian version of one of the most popular designated marksman rifles in the world, the SVD. Back in production for the first time in 50 years, this new-production rifle is part of an extremely limited import of just 200 units, with each rifle shipping with a 4x PSzO-1M2 Rifescope, a removable cheek rest, (2) 10-round magazines, and a cleaning kit/supplies – all of which is neatly contained in a polymer hardcase. The Dragunov HD-18 itself offers the same legendary reliability, accuracy, and durability as its SVD counterpart largely thanks to its exceptional production quality and use of premium materials. The receiver is precision machined from a solid block of high-strength steel, and the barrel is cold hammer forged. One of the Dragunov HD-18’s more notable features is its stock and foregrip, both of which are made from select cuts of walnut. The wood is cured for strength and longevity before being given a sleek glossy finish for resistance to the elements and an attractive appearance. The stock differs slightly from the original SVD with a more “sporterized” profile. This is evident in a cheek rest reminiscent of a Monte-Carlo stock, as well as a highly ergonomic contoured pistol grip. The stock’s “sporter” enhancements also include a wider foregrip section, and a thick rubber recoil pad. Despite the “sporterized” augmentations, the stock still retains the same distinct outline of the SVD with its thumbhole design and large sling mounting section. The foregrip also stays true to the SVD with a series of ventilation holes to help cool the barrel, the top row of which can be used to attach M-LOK accessories. Other features of the Dragunov HD-18 include an adjustable gas regulator, which can be used to enhance the rifle’s reliability when firing under adverse conditions, or when the weapon is dirty. Furthermore, the Dragunov HD-18 features a last-round bolt hold open for faster reloads.
In addition to the Dragunov HD-18 Rifle, the second most prominent item included is the PSzO-1M2 Rifescope. Identical to those used on SVD rifles, the PSzO-1M2 Rifescope is fixed at 4-power and attaches to the Dragunov HD-18 Rifle with an integrated mount. The PSzO-1M2 utilizes the PSO-1 pattern reticle, which is composed of a vertical stack of chevrons for bullet drop compensation, a series of hashmarks in a horizontal line to accommodate wind-drift, and a range-finding scale. The reticle is illuminated, and uses commonly available AA batteries.
