Description

Schmidt Bender's PM II 1-8x24 ShortDot Dual CC riflescope represents the pinnacle of modern combat scope technology. The scope features true 1x low magnification (also known as close combat mode) for fast target acquisition in close quarters and 8x high magnification for easily engaging targets out to 500 yards. At low magnification the scope is parallax free to 7 meters and is parallax free out to 100 meters when magnification is increased.

The primary feature of the 1-8x24 ShortDot Dual CC riflescope is the dual focal plane reticles, the FlashDot red dot is located on the second focal plane allowing for a consistent dot size cross all magnifications, while the MDR-T6 reticle sits on the first focal plane helping you make more accurate shots at longer ranges.

I'm deeply impressed with the quality of the glass. The CC mode at true 1x is huge, compared to red dots. The 1.1-8x zoom is extremely smooth, with perfect clarity at every zoom level. Once I zeroed the MDR-T6 reticle at 100 yds, I was impressed the reticle had a tree for hold overs, as well as mil dots above the reticle for hold unders. The illumination is also excellent, without bloom at all levels. The illumination auto shut-off works as advertised to preserve battery life. All turrets (including the illumination turret) have noticeable stops at zero. I'm even more impressed with EuroOptic including several accessories with my purchase: a full set of Tenebraex lens covers (both objective and ocular) and the Schmidt & Bender cleaning kit. Now for the cons. After zeroing at 100 yds, the CC 1x reticle points above point of impact at 25 yds. This may be a function of the scope expecting to be zeroed at 100 m (109.4 yds), and the CC 1x reticle auto-adjusting the parallax to 7 m (7.7 yds). Although this doesn't matter much at CQB distances, it is a little disappointing. Also, the turret locking isn't very positive. You have to really push down on the locking rings to engage the lock. Just pushing down to make the ticks disappear isn't enough to positively engage the lock. This may be due to this scope being a floor model. Once the scope is zeroed, this shouldn't be an issue, as you can use the reticle for holds and windage. Finally, the elevation zero stop isn't adjustable. It's not possible to dial an elevation above zero to lower the reticle. In my case, that made zeroing the elevation tricky, as out of the box, I needed to lower the reticle about 7 mrad at 100 yds. This meant undoing the set screws to rezero the elevation turret at 6 mrad, so I could dial up.
