After leaving the sport of Benchrest shooting circa 1995, I sold all my competition rifles. However, after a year or so I ventures into Vance’s Shooters supply, a local gun store in Columbus, Ohio. Immediately upon approaching the gun rack, the Kimber Longmaster Varmint-Target rifle in caliber 22-250 caught my eye. It was beautiful, and I think it was the bead-blasted 26” fluted barrel that I focused on immediately. And after holding the Kimber VT and seeing a 3-shot group that measured well under .200” I was hooked. I purchased the rifle and a box of ammo to see how well I could make it shoot. And shoot it did! I then began hand loading ammo with benchrest components: hand dies, new brass, Varget powder, Benchrest primers, and 52 gr. Nosler boat tail Bullets. At 100 yards using a Benchrest rest and bags, it consistently shoots 3-shot groups under 1/4 MOA at 100 yards. I’m now gearing up to hunt coyotes, and my Savage 110 in caliber 6.5 Creedmoor has take center stage. I’d rather shoot the Kimber, but at 10 lbs. it’s a little heavy for this old man. But like my wife of 49 years, I still love my Kimber too. I hope this helps someone somewhere...
