New for 2022, the GX4 XL T.O.R.O. is the latest addition to Taurus’s line of GX4 handguns, and delivers even more versatility and performance. The barrel and slide’s length has been increased to provide a longer sight radius for greater accuracy as well as increased muzzle velocity. Like the standard GX4, the GX4 XL has been optimized for EDC and concealed carry. The overall profile is slender, measuring in at just over 1” in width, allowing the pistol to be tucked into a waistband holster with negligible printing. All of the GX4 XL ’s edges have been rounded to eliminate the risk of snagging, and the lack of a manual safety allows the weapon to be drawn and fired quickly. The GX4 XL’s grip has also been designed for EDC and concealed carry use, featuring an aggressive stippling pattern that covers the front, rear, and sides of the grip for consistently placing the shooter’s hand in an optimal positon to manage recoil and enhance accuracy. The GX4 XL also ships with two interchangeable backstraps, allowing the pistol to conform to any hand size. In addition to its longer barrel/slide and optimal concealability, the GX4 XL features an upgraded version of Taurus’s exclusive T.O.R.O. optics mounting system. The optics cut in the slide can accommodate the vast majority of today’s popular red dots made by Holosun, Sightmark, Leupold, and more via direct thread mount – no mounting plates necessary. Another notable feature of the GX4 XL is its trigger which was designed with professional input. The trigger’s performance is on par with a duty pistol’s, ideal for both defensive applications and recreational shooting at the range. This is most evident in the trigger’s short take up, a crisp break, and trigger blade serrations that offer a positive contact point for enhanced accuracy and fast follow up shots.
Other features of the GX4 XL include surface treatments on both the external and internal components to ensure a long service life. A gas nitride coating on the slide to provide outstanding resistance to the elements, corrosion, and scuffing. The barrel has been given a special DLC (Diamond Like Coating) treatment that offers reduced friction and stands up to wear and corrosion. The GX4 XL T.O.R.O.’s magazine release and slide release are given a Teflon coating, which provides a natural lubricity for maximum smoothness and well as greater protection from wear, and the internal metal parts feature a nickel plating to further resist the effects of rust/corrosion. As with all of Taurus’s semiautomatic pistols, the GX4 XL features a visual loaded chamber indicator, allowing the user to immediately tell if a round is loaded and eliminates the need to perform “press-checks”.
